The inventory

Privacy

Standrow LLC of Pittsburgh answers for this site. Booking a space needs a journey described; it does not need a driver profiled. What follows is an inventory rather than an essay.

Item 1: the request

FieldWhy it existsWho else sees it
A nameSo an operator knows whose vehicleThe operators approached
A reply addressSo a written note can go backThe operators approached, and the mail service in transit
A telephone number, optionalSo an ambiguity can be settled by voiceThe operators approached, if given
Two datesBecause a space is held for datesThe operators approached
The vehicleBecause length and height decide which bays fitThe operators approached
A cover preferenceBecause it changes which operators can answerThe operators approached
A free noteBecause people know things about their own tripThe operators approached

Held while the reservation is live, plus a short tail afterwards, because a later message almost always concerns an earlier one. Nothing beyond those seven fields travels anywhere.

Item 2: the answers gathered

The quotes operators send back, and the note sent on to the driver. Same mailbox, same duration, same recipients.

Item 3: one word in your browser

Written only if the storage card is answered yes. It records that the question was asked so it stops being asked. It never leaves the machine you are reading on and nobody here can see it.

Decline and nothing is written at all, which is why the card returns next visit. That is the honest consequence rather than a fault.

There is no item 4

No account. No profile. No history. No record anywhere that a particular person read a particular page.

The absences, listed

  1. No counter of any kind. No analytics, no advertising tag, no pixel, no social button, no video embed, no map tile, no comment thread.
  2. No typeface from anybody else's server. Both faces sit here beside the stylesheet.
  3. No card field on any page. Not one, anywhere on this site.
  4. No identity document, no government number, no birth date, no medical information, no password. None of them corresponds to a field that exists.
  5. No mailing list. There is nothing to be added to and nothing to unsubscribe from.

Point one is not a promise to withhold numbers. No such numbers are ever generated here, so none can be kept back. A host is required in order to host, and every host keeps short operational logs. Those belong to the host. Nothing in them is assembled on this desk's behalf, delivered here, or laid against anything sitting in the mailbox.

If advertising is ever added

None runs here now. If any is added, this page is rewritten before it goes live rather than after, the inventory above gains the rows, and the review date moves. The sentence sits here now so nobody discovers the difference later.

Rights, and how to use one

Write to standing@sablebearings.com from the address the request came from and ask for a copy, a correction or a deletion. Deletion happens on reading.

Several states legislate these rights, California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and Texas among them. Since this desk never asks where anybody lives, the same answer goes out to everyone.

Two further rights usually accompany them and have nothing here to act on. Profiling does not occur. Automated decisions about people do not occur.

Where a reservation has already been placed, the operator holds its own record and only that operator can speak to it.

Selling, sharing, signals

None, never, and nothing to opt out of. A browser sending a global privacy preference finds the arrangement it is asking for already in place.

Children

No child is addressed here, nobody's age is asked, and nothing held would disclose one.

Security, plainly

Served over HTTPS. There is none of the apparatus that usually gets breached here: no database, no accounts, no stored audience. There is correspondence, and it is looked after the way correspondence is. No one can honestly guarantee that anything crossing the internet is perfectly safe, and no such guarantee appears here.
